The term kyusu is often used to refer to relatively small side-handled teapots. Called yokode kyuusu in Japanese, these side-handled teapots are by far the most popular way to brew Japanese tea, and for good reasons: they’re comfortable to use, versatile, and elegant.

Our Sabi Sensuji Teapot’s side handle lets you comfortably pour tea with a simple twist of the wrist, which is considered more elegant than the larger arm movements that back or top-handled teapots require. The placement of the handle also allows you to place your thumb on the lid of the pot, securing it in place while pouring.

This teapot is made in Nagasaki, Japan which is well-known for remarkable Japanese porcelain production. Featuring a natural accent around the teapot base and lid, this teapot is perfect for serving Japanese tea such as green tea; hojicha and genmaicha. Simple and timeless design. The teapot is easy to wash and use.

Designed in 1958, it is known as one of Masahiro Mori’s most famous pieces for Hakusan Porcelain, having been awarded the Good Design Prize in 1960 and the Long Life Design Prize in 1977 for its combination of functionality and a simple, beautiful form.

Pair with our Sabi Sensuji teacups for a matching set.
