"From Earth to Donabe" The clay of the Iga region comes from 4-million-year-old earth layers which used to be the bottom of Lake Biwa. All iga-yaki (tradional Iga-style) pottery is made from this special historic porous clay, which naturally has high absorbency and heat retention.
Every one of Nagatani-en’s Iga-yaki donabes are truly an artisanal piece of work and takes roughly 2 weeks for each donabe to be made.
